I don’t know if this month has been terrible or if it’s me who is observing the news very closely. Financial Crisis on Wall Street, 100 + year old banks closed, Delhi blast, Tripura blast, a very entertaining but sad presidential race, India loosing on democratic grounds in many polices and the list goes on.
I don’t know how to express my anger and frustration on the number attacks by Islamic Terrorist. It is a very sad state that such an act of terror happens right in the middle of the city. . Being a Muslim my stand is clear, I am not a part of self declared Jihad and Islam doesn’t teach or promotes violence. I call for the Indian government and the fellow citizens to be more co-operative and vigilant. We have been ignoring the terrorist attacks as rare and once in a while incidents (other than in Kashmir) but today the time has changed the frequency of attacks on India has increased and this calls for increased measures from the government of India. Bring in the best source we have in India, people, more cops in the town and with the help of technology a lot can be achieved. Increased regulation on Internet Café is required without intruding the right to privacy and freedom. Investment on Infrastructure for disaster recovery and quick access is required right away. All this costs money, where do we have money in India? The answer is if you provide a safer environment to the consumers they will be confident to spend and the Investors will be confident to invest this brings in more money. You won’t find the money right away it’s a wait for the returns on Investment strategy. But with such a huge population is it possible? Yes, big things require big plans and big investment and big commitments. The problem with the government is that they are not in good business practice and the core of the problem is corruption. If every law in the country is rightly and tightly implemented with a threshold so that people are not frustrated and instead appreciate the effort then a lot of money can be recovered like Taxes, interests and intelligent investment. The government is always in give away policy rather than Invest and Return policy. 1/3rd of the world’s poverty is in India (spending $ 1.33 per day) meaning 70% of India is looking for help from the government due to lack of opportunity rather than be a part of the economy. Considering the size of the population India is on a better side when it comes to literacy compared to many countries. We are unable to tap the resources. Cheap labor as the world sees is a boon to Indian economy as more opportunities pour in and holding on to them is equally important.
Another touchy topic is the ‘Hindu terrorism’ in Orissa. The debate still goes on where untouchables converted to Christianity as they seek salvation and a social status is a Hindu predominant country to Hindu ideals. This has happened in the past and later it was resolved and it can be solved even now with religious leaders coming to the table rather than instigating attacks churches and sneaking in on people. The Act of ‘Hindu terrorism’ is increasing on a very big scale but the problem is that, in country where Hindus are majority it is more seen as a cultural fight than terrorism on the minority let it be Christians in Orissa, Goa and Kerala or Muslims in Mumbai, Calcutta, Ahmadabad etc. Hindus, Muslims and Christians have lived in India before in peace and harmony and not only that but we have set an example to the world of diversity and brotherhood. Let people celebrate their freedom. ‘No meat on Gandhi Jayanthi’ should not be forced but it’s a practice that people can embrace if they want. It is like taking away the right to eat. Let people celebrate Valentine ’s Day and let us not burn Archies or Hallmarks anymore on that day and let us not take away the right to choose the religion. If the Hindu Untouchables convert to Christianity then let them. Hindu culture is one of the oldest cultures in the world and it is not week.
Some of the basic things that we can do as Indians are to learn things from around the world. The notion of implementing successful policies from the west is not westernizing the Indian culture but improving it. Thins as simple as pay your taxes, Vote responsibly, pay your electricity bills and not steal them, be a responsible citizen and abide by the rules of law, use water in moderation, Solar energy, approach to cheaper technology for small businesses to be competitive, Let people practice freedom in a right way. India is the biggest democracy in the world and “SHE” cannot fail. |
